A low-cost identification system for yield mapping during manual vine harvesting
In this paper an automated low-cost yield measurement and identification system is proposed to establish the association between harvested grapes contained in bins and a small set of producing vines in the field. The system can be used to generate a medium resolution yield map during traditional vine harvesting. Low cost barcode tags, which contain unique ID numbers, were attached to individual bins. A barcode reader, a digital weighing scale and a GPS were mounted in a construction in order to identify the bin’s ID, record the weight of each bin load and measure the position. This system does not interfere significantly with the current harvesting procedures, although some changes to the harvesting practice may be required eventually.
