Four cases of diabetic fibrous mastopathy were described —in three type 1 diabetic women and one type 2 diabetic woman. In all these women the diagnosis has been made after biopsy —one with fine needle— but in three of them were confirmed also after surgical operation. The fibrous diabetic mastopathy may represent an immune reaction to AGES with attraction of macrophages and lymphocytes which produce cytokines and through TGF‚1 the collagen which produced ultimately increases the fibrous tissue. Surgeons, gynaecologists, diabetologists, and general practitioners must be aware of this complication which appears in diabetic women and rarely in diabetic men.
