Nanotechnology and its Considerations in Poultry Field: An Overview

Nanotechnology is a technology that focused on the production of materials and structures where size is measured in nanometers (1 to 100 nm), the materials have characters differ fundamentally from their bulk form and applied in different fields. Nanomaterials present in different forms including; nanoparticles (metals and metals oxides), nanoemulsions, nanoporous, nanoclay or nanosilica. Nanoparticles have different mode of action depends on particles size, solubility and charges. Different types of nanoparticles have been used in broilers for improving performance, immunity and resistance to different pathogens, for layers to increase both quantity and quality of eggs. Moreover, nanotechnology is now applied in embryonated chicken eggs for improving embryos development. There are certain challenges or obstacles facing application of nanotechnology in poultry field. In conclusion, much work is still required to support the safety of application of these nano materials in animal nutrition, avoiding any harm to livestock, the environment and human beings.
