USING WEB QUEST AND PROJECT WORK TO ENHANCE MOTIVATION AND DEVELOP LEARNING STRATEGIES IN GREEK SECONDARY EDUCATION
Foreign language learning should focus on the development of students languageskills and the promotion of communication and cooperation among people. Studentsshould learn how to learn and they should also be taught how to use knowledge fromdifferent scientific fields in order to produce oral and written speech and at the sametime to be creative.Project is a method that leads towards this direction. Experiential learning becomes areality, students are given the opportunity to use technology, to work in groups anddevelop intellectual and social skills. Furthermore, learners become aware of theholistic aspect of knowledge while working on a topic of interest to them with aparticular aim in mind. Finally, students realise that school is closely related to theworld outside.The present dissertation aims to investigate how the combination of project work,web quest and the use of new technologies can form a strong element of motivation ina Greek secondary class. Students activate and develop learning strategies whichenable them to carry out tasks successfully and become autonomous learners.Furthermore, they evaluate both the process and the product and make concludingremarks. The current experimental research has been another attempt to add varietyand boost students creativity and interest in the target language.
