The Vatopedi manuscript 932 on the occasion of a miniature recovery

Η ανεύρεση ενός περγαμηνού φύλλου με την απεικόνιση του Ευαγγελιστή Ματθαίου στα χειρόγραφα του σκευοφυλακίου της μονής Βατοπεδίου και η ταύτισή του ως ανήκοντος στο Τετραευάγγελο 932 της ίδιας μονής συνιστά την αφορμή με την οποία παρουσιάζεται σύντομα ο εν λόγω κώδικας. Το Τετραευάγγελο με 128 φύλλα, μικρογράμματη γραφή επιμελημένη, κείμενο σε δύο στήλες κοσμείται και με παραστάσεις των Ευαγγελιστών από τις οποίες υπάρχουν αυτές του Ιωάννου και του Ματθαίου. Σύμφωνα με όλες τις ενδείξεις τόσο των μικρογραφιών, όσο και των διακοσμητικών του χρονολογείται στον 12ο αιώνα και πιθανώς προέρχεται από scriptorium της Ιερουσαλήμ.

The discovery of a parchment leaf with the Evangelist Matthew in the manuscripts of the Sacristy of the Vatopedi monastery on Mount Athos and the identification of the latter as belonging to the Gospel book 932 of the same monastery is the reason for this brief presentation here. The Gospel book, with 128 parchments leaves, miniscule lettering carefully penned and text arranged in two columns, is also decorated with miniatures of the Evangelists of which survive those of John and Matthew. According to the extant evidence both from the miniatures and the decorative patterns a dating in the 12th century is rather probable; in terms of provenance the Gospel book could have been written in a scriptorium of Jerusalem.
