Οι δύο αμφιπρόσωπες εικόνες του Μεσαιωνικού Μουσείου της Ρόδου με τον Χριστό Παντοκράτορα και τη Θεοτόκο αποτελούσαν αρχικά ζεύγος δεσποτικών του τέμπλου. Είναι έργα εξαίρετου και πιθανόν Κωνσταντινουπολίτη ζωγράφου και φιλοτεχνήθηκαν περί τα μέσα του 14ου αιώνα. Στην ίδια περίπου εποχή τοποθετούνται ακόμη δύο αμφιπρόσωπες εικόνες με τη Σταύρωση και τον ευαγγελιστή Λουκά στη δεύτερη όψη τους, σημαντικά έργα ενός, επίσης, ζωγράφου. Διατυπώνεται η υπόθεση ότι αυτές, καθώς και η λαμπρή αμφιπρόσωπη εικόνα της Παναγίας και του αγίου Νικολάου στο ίδιο Μουσείο περιλαμβάνονταν ίσως στα κειμήλια που δωρήθηκαν από τον αυτοκράτορα Μανουήλ Β΄ Παλαιολόγο, πριν το 1394, στον Fr. Domenico d’ Alamania, αμιράλη του Τάγματος των Ιπποτών του Αγίου Ιωάννη της Ρόδου.

The two bilateral icons in the Medieval Museum of Rhodes with Christ Pantocrator and the Virgin were originally a pair of despotic icons on an iconostasis. They are works of an excellent and possibly Constantinopolitan painter, produced in the middle of the fourteenth century. To the same period are dated two more bilateral icons with the Crucifixion and the Evangelist Luke, on the rear side respectively, important works also of one painter. It is suggested that these icons, as well as the splendid bilateral icon of the Virgin and St Nicholas in the same museum, were perhaps among the gifts of ecclesiastical treasures given by Emperor Manuel II Palaiologos, before 1394, to Fr. Domenico d’ Alamania, Admiral of the Order of the Knights of St John of Rhodes.
