The high intraocular pressure and the glaucoma are two of the common problems that an ophthalmologist has to overcome every day. More specific, glaucoma is one of the main causes of blindness worldwide. All the treatments for glaucoma are based on the reduction of the intraocular pressure, which seems to be the main reason to cause glaucoma. The anti-glaucoma drugs and eye drops remain the first choice; however, they do not have always the best result in all types of glaucoma. Thus, regarding the failure of the pharmaceutical therapy, we have to use surgical methods such as trabeculectomy, glaucoma valves and laser treatment, methods which will most probably cause side effects. Therefore, until today we try to discover different methods which will be both effective and with less side effects than the ones used until now. The Photodynamic Therapy is a method which can cause biologic effect achieved by the activation of a photosensitizer using light of appropriate wavelength. The idea of the transcleral photodynamic therapy has begun in the middle of 1990 with the application to vascular tissues. In the year 2000 the photosensitizer verteporfin had approval for being used in human, an event that reinforced the idea of using the transcleral photodynamic therapy as an alternative method of cyclodestruction.
