Use of Enhanced Geothermal Systems for electricity production in Northern Greece

Chandros, Anastasios

This dissertation was written as a part of the MSc in Energy Systems at the International Hellenic University. The goal of this dissertation is to examine the potential of Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) installations for electricity production in Northern Greece. Bibliographical data on the geothermal fields of Northern Greece are used as input variables in the System Advisor Model (SAM) developed by NREL, in order to analyze the installation of an EGS power plant. I am using this opportunity to express my gratitude to everyone who supported me throughout the course of this MSc project. I would like to express my deep gratitude to Professor Dr. George Giannakidis, my supervisors, for his patient guidance, enthusiastic encouragement and useful critiques of this dissertation. I am particularly grateful for the assistance given by the instructors from both the IHU and the visiting faculty. I wish to thank my parents and my brother for their support and encouragement throughout my study. Finally, I would like to thank my fiancée, Marina, who has always been supporting my choices and encouraging my efforts. Without her help and patience I would not have been able to complete my studies.
