The existing electricity networks and their architecture are already way beyond the current market needs and there is an urgent need for a whole new approach, architecture, design and control in order to evolve from a located remotely from demand center energy system to a user centric network. Through implementing the smart grid, there is a significant increase in the quantity, quality and use of data available from advanced sensing, computing, and communications hardware and software resulting to significant environmental and economic benefits. In this paper we are going to examine the possibility of establishing an innovative company located in Greece which will provide to the global market smart grid solutions and services. We will examine the opportunities that have been created from the rapidly developing renewable energy sources, the antiquated electricity grid which cannot absorb the renewables' power production and service the growing energy demand.
