Gjika, Elton

Green Supply Chain Management has emerged as a key environmental issue which incorporates environmental concerns into supply chains. Organizations nowadays are accountable and obliged to uphold their environmental performance. Global supply chains have comprehensive goals, and the success of GSCM is to bring the industry toward sustainable development. GSCM has increased recognition with academics and practitioners. The aim of this paper is to briefly review the recent related literature defining GSCM conception, classifying the main items of its practices and determining the new direction area of this emerging field. In order to efficiently “go-green”, the business needs to communicate this effort to customers, partners, and the public. This paper shows the reasons why organizations would choose for a green supply chain and discusses the key drivers for this initiative as a competitive advantage, which includes positive financial ROI, improved customer and public relations, government compliance etc. The analysis purpose is on GSCM’s development and its impact on rising supply chain effectiveness, improving investor affairs, reducing risk and a better Corporate Social Responsibility toward sustainability. Farther we discuss the operational function that supply chain management has had inside the cement industry and elaborate general facts in a specific case of the TITAN Group and one of its subsidiaries, ANTEA Cement operating in Albania. Finally we indicate the importance of increasing and exchanging the green supply chain to every part of the supply chain like supplier’s supplier and customer’s customer and even linking up with competitors. The result will be greener supply chain that involves fewer capital, has less operating expenses, and presents a competitive advantage.
