Copyright issues emerging from the publication of digital works relative to archaeological material and the digitization of archaeological material

Dagiou, Olga

The present dissertation thesis is titled “Copyright issues emerging from the publication of digital works relative to archaeological material and the digitization of archaeological material". The objective of the thesis is the presentation of copyright issues when it comes to use of digital and digitized works of archaeological material. Specifically referring to publication of digital works and digitization of works initially published on hard medium. Works of archaeological context that will be presented are photographs and publications of archaeological research and studies, both digital–born and digitized accordingly. The choice of the certain works was based on the fact that the above mentioned works constitute the main instruments of archaeological documentation. Short reference is made to archaeological excavation journals -even if they do not constitute “publications” in the sense that are communicated to the public-, but they constitute the basis of publications of archaeological research and studies. Copyright issues are presented through collation between the provisions of the archaeological Law 3028/2002 and Copyright Law 2121/1993. Concluding and after having pointed out “gray zones” and incompleteness of administrative procedures, corrective actions are suggested.
