The cimmerians in greek historiography (6th -4thc.B.C.)
The aim of this paper is to examine the Cimmerians in Greek historiography from 6th to 4th c.B.C. and the perception the Greeks had towards the Cimmerians. The subject is initially focusing in the history of the Cimmerians in order to understand and to discover their origins and who they were. In order to achieve that, Greek and Assyrian sources and historians theories and views who worked on the subject, are in depth examined. Moreover, the Greek colonization in the Black Sea area will be presented in order to see and to understand the interactions and conflicts between the Greeks and the different tribes they contact with and met. Finally, after examining the Cimmerian history and the Greek colonization in the Black Sea area and in order to make a safe comparison, the prerequisite is to examine thoroughly the ancient Greek communities. Through this attempt one can understand how the belief ‘the Greek and the others’ occurred.
