An improved determination of the zones of yield initiation for the interface crack problem (EN)

The problem of two bonded dissimilar materials with a finite central crack along the interface and subjected to biaxial load at infinity is examined by giving the zones of yield initiation. The Mises yield criterion has been used to construct the yield initiation boundary by using the two-term approximate and the complete expressions for stresses (i) for various combinations of different bonded materials, (ii) for different biaxial load factors, and (iii) for different load levels applied at infinity. The influence in the yield initiation boundary of these factors and the significant differences derived from the two solutions are presented. The effect of different biaxial load factors on the Mises equivalent stress is also given by using both solutions. The relative errors between respective yield initiation boundaries and respective Mises equivalent stresses derived by using the two-term approximate and the complete expressions for the stresses are also presented. © 1990.
