Radiation from a monopole antenna placed over an infinite size perfect conductivity ground plane and covered by a finite height dielectric cylinder is examined. The axial symmetry of the structure and of the excitation simplifies the analysis. A two step approach is applied to determine the radiation properties of the monopole antenna. In the first place, the radiation from an elementary annular current source embedded inside the finite height dielectric cylinder is determined. After determining the Green's function, in the second step, an integral equation on the monopole antenna source is solved by Galerkin's technique to compute the current distribution. Input impedances and radiation patterns are derived in terms of the current distribution on the monopole antenna. Numerical results are presented for several cases. (EN)
