Effect of translation on the prediction of saturated densities of binary mixtures with a peng-robinson equation of state (EN)

A comprehensive study of the effect of the volumetric translation on the prediction of saturated densities of binary mixtures is presented using a database involving 25 binary mixtures at high pressures. A modified Peng-Robinson (t-mPR) Equation of State has been used to this purpose involving three types of translation (t): t = f (T(r), omega), t = t0 = f(omega), and t = 0. For saturated liquid densities use of translation gives improved results in the presence of compounds with omega values larger than about 0.3, the improvement increasing with increasing omega, while the effect of the temperature-dependent part of the translation becomes more important in the presence of compounds whose T(r) value approaches unity. Results for saturated vapor densities are, interestingly, poorer than those for liquid ones, and are not significantly effected by the use of translation due to its small size when compared to the vapor volume.
