The behaviour of square joints of steel frames under bending moments is studied and a method for the calculation of their deformation and the corresponding carrying capacity is suggested. All the stresses that are developed in the web are taken into account through the analysis, including those developed in the area of the web where no plasticity occurs. From the presented diagrams the critical moments of the joints can be easily obtained vs various parameters, while an appropriate comparison of these results is made with existing methods in order to verify the validity of the method proposed.
