A Predictive Analysis of Differential Attenuation on Adjacent Satellite Paths Including Rain Height Effects (EN)

Interference between adjacent Earth-space paths can be caused by propagation effects due to differential rain attenuation. In the present paper, a modification of an existing method to predict the rain differential attenuation statistics is proposed. The modified method takes into account a more complicated but realistic model for the description of the rain height. The present results are compared with the available simulation data for the differential attenuation over pairs of paths in the Montreal area. The difference between the existing predictive results and the deduced ones after use of the modified procedure, for various geographic latitudes and climatic zones, is also examined. (EN)
