This paper is meant as a contribution to the study of verbal aspect and tense in Thessalian. It seeks to explore the function of the means of morphological encoding of verbal aspect not only in a semantic level but mainly in regard to some contextual factors. Our corpus consists of decrees, manumissions and judicial texts (dating mstly from the 3rd up to the 2nd century B.C.). The main conclusion seems to be that the encoding of verbal aspect takes place not only in a morphological level but also in a syntactic one, since certain contexts co-occur with remarkable regularity only with the form of certain tenses. That is especially important, because it helps us largely to reduce the cases where, in order to explain the occurence of different tense dorms in (seemingly) similar contexts, we can only talk about neutralisation of oppositions.
Η διατριβή αυτή αποτελεί μια συμβολή στη διερεύνηση της όψης του ρήματος (aspect) στην Αρχαία Ελληνική και πιο συγκεκριμένα σε ορισμένες δωρικές διαλέκτους [Κρητική, Λακωνική, (δυτική) Αργολική, Κυρηναϊκή, Ροδιακή και Μεγαρική των αποικιών]. Στοχεύει στο να καταδείξει το σημαντικό ρόλο του κειμενικού περιβάλλοντος στη δήλωση της όψης, καθώς από την ανάλυση του υλικού θα προκύπτει ότι σχεδόν όλοι οι ενεστωτικοί και αοριστικοί τύποι οι οποίοι ανήκουν σε ρηματικά παραδείγματα που διαθέτουν και ενεστωτικό και αοριστικό θέμα, εμφανίζονται με συστηματικότητα1 σε συγκεκριμένα περιβάλλοντα ή συγκεκριμένους συνδυασμούς περιβαλλόντων.
