O στόχος της διδακτορικής διατριβής ήταν διττός: αφενός μεν η διερεύνηση του δημοτικού τραγουδιού της περιοχής Καρδίτσας, αφετέρου η ανίχνευση του πολύπλευρου ρόλου των γυναικών στη δημιουργία, τη μετάδοση, την επιτέλεση του. Πέρα ωστόσο από την οπτική του φύλου ο προβληματισμός επεκτάθηκε ώστε να συμπεριλάβει την οπτική του φύλου, το πώς δηλαδή κατασκευάζεται ο ανδρισμός και η θηλυκότητα εν μέσω τόσο παραδοσιακών όσο και σύγχρονων επιτελεστικών πρακτικών, σε ένα πολιτισμικό σύστημα που διαρκώς αλλάζει.Θεωρώντας πως ο παράγοντας του φύλου είναι ουσιώδους σημασίας για την ερμηνεία των μουσικών πολιτισμών επιχειρήθηκε η οπτική του φύλου να ενσωματωθεί στη συζήτηση για την παραδοσιακή μουσική κι έτσι ο χορός και το τραγούδι προσεγγίστηκαν ως τόποι, όπου οι έμφυλες ταυτότητες, όχι μόνο αναπαρίστανται, αλλά κατασκευάζονται, άλλοτε επιβεβαιώνοντας και άλλοτε αμφισβητώντας την κυρίαρχη ιδεολογία της κοινωνίας για τη «σωστή» αντρική και γυναικεία συμπεριφορά.Με αφετηρία την παραδοχή της σπουδαιότητας της βιογραφικής μεθόδου και των προφορικών μαρτυριών στην προσέγγιση των κοινωνικοπολιτισμικών φαινομένων, το ενδιαφέρον εστιάστηκε σε τέσσερις γυναίκες, που είτε βίωσαν τη μουσική απλά ως συνέχεια της πολιτισμικής τους καταγωγής, είτε κατέφυγαν σ’ αυτή, για να επικοινωνήσουν και να εκφραστούν, να κοινωνικοποιηθούν και να πολιτικοποιηθούν, είτε μόνο να βιοπορισθούν. Τέλος, επιχειρήθηκε να διερευνηθεί κατά πόσο τα συμπεράσματα της διατριβής μπορούν να μετουσιωθούν σε μια εκπαιδευτική πρόταση για τη διδασκαλία του μαθήματος της μουσικής στο δημοτικό σχολείο.
Τhe aim of this thesis was double focused: on the one hand the investigation of the folk song in the region of Κarditsa and οn the other hand the detection of the multilateral role of women in its creation, its communication and its performance. Ηowever, the reflection was expanded so as to include the aspect of gender, that is how masculinity and femininity are constructed in the middle of so traditional as well as contemporary performative practices, in a cultural system that is continually changing. Considering that the factor of gender is one of essential importance for the interpretation of musical cultures there has been an attempt to incorporate this aspect in the discussion about traditional music and thus dancing and singing were approached as places where the gender identities are not only represented but also constructed, sometimes verifying and other doubting the dominant ideology of the society regarding the «correct» masculine and feminine behaviour. Having as a starting point the admission of the oral testimony for the approaching of the sociocultural phenomena, the interest was focused in four women who either have experienced music simply as a continuance of their cultural origin or resorted in it to communicate and express themselves, to take part in the social and political processes or just to make a living. Finally, an attempt was made for the conclusions of the thesis to be investigated with regard to the degree to which they can be converted into an educational proposal about the teaching of the lesson of music in primary education.
