OBJECTIVES: to compare the prevalence of bullying between children ages 11-14 years that visited the departments of Mental Health Services for Children and Adolescents (MHSCA) in Cyprus; with those of a previous research on a representative sample of the general student population of the same age range, to report involving emotional difficulties and behavioral problems, to investigate the occurrence rate of PTSD in victims, to collect data involving children beliefs, reactions of school staff and relatives, schoolmates, age and gender and to correlate them with bullying.METHOD: Participants were 200 children and their parents who visited MHSCA. The diagnostic tools were: The Revised Olweus Bully / Victim Questionnaire (for students)/Pro-Victim Scale standardized and adjusted in the Greek population, Strength and Difficulty Questionnaires: For parents and children, CPTSD-RI και ASEBA questionnaires (YSR, CBCL). RESULTS: The clinical population of children from 11 to 14 years, have been victimized twice the rate of the general population of the same age. The groups of children involved in bullying phenomena, had significantly more emotional difficulties and behavioral problems than the not involved group, (65%) of victims suffer from moderate to severe PTSD, girls demonstrate more frequent PTSD than boys , boys bully more than girls, socially isolated children are prone to victimization etc. CONCLUSION: Bullying in schools is a burden on the vulnerable mental health population. The results of this study facilitate in designing prevention programs for bullying.
ΣΤΟΧΟΙ: Μελέτη της συχνότητας του Σ.Ε. στον κλινικό πληθυσμό των παιδιών, 11-14 χρονών που προσέρχονταν στις Υπηρεσίες Ψυχικής Υγείας Παιδιών και Εφήβων (ΥΨΥΠΕ) της Κύπρου, σύγκριση με συχνότητα Σ.Ε. σε γενικό πληθυσμό ίδιου ηλικιακού φάσματος, καταγραφή των συναισθηματικών δυσκολιών και τα προβλημάτων συμπεριφοράς απότοκων του Σ.Ε, της συχνότητας PTSD στα θύματα, των πεποιθήσεις των παιδιών για το Σ.Ε., αντιδράσεων, συμμαθητών και ενηλίκων, ηλικίας, φύλου κλ. και η σχέση τους με τον Σ.Ε.ΜΕΘΟΔΟΣ: Συμμετείχαν 200 παιδιά καθώς και οι γονείς τους. Τα διαγνωστικά εργαλεία ήταν : The Revised Olweus Bully/Victim Questionnaire/ Pro-Victim Scale προαρμοσμένο και σταθμισμένο στον Ελληνικό πληθυσμό, τα ερωτηματολόγια Δυσκολιών και Δυνατοτήτων, για γονείς και παιδιά, τα ερωτηματολόγια CPTSD-RI και ASEBA (YSR, CBCL). ΑΠΟΤΕΛΕΣΜΑΤΑ: Ο κλινικός πληθυσμός των παιδιών 11-14 χρονών θυματοποιήθηκε σε διπλάσιο ποσοστό από τον αντίστοιχο γενικό πληθυσμό, τα εμπλεκόμενα στο Σ.Ε παιδιά παρουσιάζουν σημαντικές συναισθηματικές δυσκολίες και προβλήματα συμπεριφοράς, το (65%) των θυμάτων παρουσιάζουν μέτριου έως πολύ σοβαρού βαθμού PTSD, τα κορίτσια παρουσιάζουν συχνότερα PTSD, τα αγόρια εκφόβιζαν συχνότερα, τα κοινωνικά απομονωμένα παιδιά θυματοποιούνται συχνότερα, κλ. ΣΥΜΠΕΡΑΣΜΑΤΑ: Ο Σ.Ε. επιβαρύνει σημαντικά την ψυχική υγεία των ευάλωτων ψυχικά παιδιών. Βάσει των αποτελεσμάτων μπορεί να σχεδιάσουν αντι -εκφοβιστικά προγράμματα και πολιτικές.
