Το άρθρο είναι αφιερωμένο στους δύο στοχαστές που αποτελούν την προσωποποίηση του ύψ ιστού σημείου της γερμανικής κλασικής περιόδου: στον Goethe για τη λογοτεχνία και στον Hegel για στη φιλοσοφία. Η εισαγωγή σκιαγραφεί μερικά παραδείγματα που αφορούν την πρόσληψή τους στην Ελλάδα. Στο κεντρικό μέρος παρουσιάζεται καταρχάς ο τρόπος κατανόησής τους στη Γερμανία τον 19ο αιώνα και, στη συνέχεια, η προσωπική σχέση ανάμεσα τους. Ακολουθεί η σύγκριση των έργων τους, στη βάση τριών επιλεγμένων τομέων που αφορούν τη σχέση υποκειμένου και αντικειμένου, την αντίληψη της φύσης και τον ρόλο της γλώσσας. Το γεγονός ότι στο κεντρικό ζήτημα της φύσης υπήρξε δυνατή μία συμφωνία παρόλες τις διαφορές, αυτό οφείλεται στο ότι και οι δύο δεν ήθελαν να είναι φυσικοί επιστήμονες με τη μοντέρνα έννοια. Εδώ, καταπιάνονται με θέματα που έχουν σχέση με τα κίνητρα του σημερινού οικολογικού κινήματος, όπως είναι η κριτική στην αξιολογική θέση της επιστήμης κατά τις επεμβάσεις του ανθρώπου στη φύση.

This article is dedicated to two thinkers who personify the culmination of the German classic period: Goethe in literature and Hegel in philosophy. The introduction deals with their reception in Greece, while the main part describes the German perception of these thinkers during the 19th century, as well as the personal relationship between them. It also offers a comparison of their work in three domains: the relation of subject and object, the understanding of nature and the role of language. If an understanding on the central subject of the nature was possible despite all the differences between Goethe and Hegel, this was due to the fact that neither wished to be a natural scientist in the modern sense of the term. They have reviewed issues that have much in common with the motives of current ecological movements, criticizing for instance the scientific evaluation of human interventions in nature.
