The main source of Erophili is Orbecche by Giovan Battista Giraldi Cinzio. A comparison between the two tragedies shows that the Cretan poet was able to correct most of the flaws and inconsistencies of the Italian text. Although Chortatsis could easily have avoided them, the most relevant changes bring the text closer to the Decameron tale which is the source of Orbecche. The parallelism between the two works is evidence of Chortatsis dependence from Boccaccio. (EN)
