The paper focuses on Ioannis Loumos’ film “Stella Violanti” (1931), widely praised at its time as the first serious literary adaptation in Greek cinema. The film marks Grigorios Xenopoulos’first involvement in the seventh art, since he signs the screenplay, which is based on his short novel “Eros estavromenos”(1903) and his famous play “Stella Violanti” (1909). Unfortunately thefilm is lost today, thus its appreciation depends entirely on its critical reception and Xenopoulos’comments in the daily press of the period. (EN)
