The heavy metal distribution in surface sediments and cores from Pamvotis Lake (Ioannina) and Kalamas River of North-western Greece over a period of two years was studied. The lake admits mainly municipal and light agricultural and industrial wastes. It merges with the river via a narrow channel where the lake water is discharged. The deposited metals and the organic carbon content were determined in sediment samples taken from nineteen stations in the lake and five stations of the river. The results suggest ''anthropogenic'' influence at the coasts near the town of Ioannina and at the first station of the Kalamas river. (EN)
