In North West Greece a wood impregnation factory, Elviex, has installed a macrophyte-based biological treatment plant as a pilot study to treat rainwater contaminated with PAH's falling on the manufacturing area. The efficiency of the treatment system after the first three months of its operation shows percentage removal rates as high as 70% for BTX (Benzene, Toluene, Xylene), 92% for PAH's and 94% for phenolic compounds. The first results look promising for the plant system in reaching optimal efficiency for the rain wastewaters of wood impregnation factories. (EN)
