A new route for the preparation of SBA-1 mesoporous silica is being reported. The method, employs polyacrylic acid, which has the ability to form highly ordered liquid-crystalline mesophases when complexed with the cationic surfactant C(n)TAB, in the presence of a silica source. The method makes possible, for the first time, the synthesis of SBA-1 phase in a wide range of pH varying from 4 to 7. (EN)
