The main criterion of the jus ad bellum concept of Just War Theory, “just cause,” recognizes the possibility of only one “cause” of war, and every attempt to further analyze and investigate deeper causes of war is automatically perceived through the zero-sum lens, as an attempt to justify or excuse the unjust side in war. No such thing happens when analyzing other, extremely morally troubling and disturbing phenomena as we invest significant effort into attempting to explain evil without this effort ever being understood as a justification attempt. The author demonstrates how the described approach in Just War Theory prevents us from fully understanding war, and thus implicitly from how to normatively prescribe human actions in and regarding war. The author also asserts that this perspective actually represents a presupposition concerning the possibility of justness of war. The author concludes that, in order to fully understand war and properly morally evaluate it, ethics of war must adopt a non-zero-sum model of distribution of moral responsibility and acknowledge the existence of a wide variety of causes of war.</dc:description><dc:format>application/pdf</dc:format><dc:identifier>https://ejournals.epublishing.ekt.gr/index.php/Conatus/article/view/34553</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:publisher xml:lang='en'>The NKUA Applied Philosophy Research Laboratory</dc:publisher><dc:relation rdf:resource='https://ejournals.epublishing.ekt.gr/index.php/Conatus/article/view/34553/27262'></dc:relation><dc:rights xml:lang='en'>Copyright (c) 2023 Dragan Stanar</dc:rights><dc:rights xml:lang='en'>http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0</dc:rights><dc:source>Conatus-Περιοδικό Φιλοσοφίας</dc:source><dc:source>2459-3842</dc:source><dc:source>2653-9373</dc:source><dc:source xml:lang='el'>Conatus - Περιοδικό Φιλοσοφίας; Τόμ. 8 Αρ. 2 (2023): Conatus - Journal of Philosophy SI: War Ethics; 613-628</dc:source><dc:source xml:lang='en'>Conatus - Journal of Philosophy; Vol. 8 No. 2 (2023): Conatus - Journal of Philosophy SI: War Ethics; 613-628</dc:source><dc:subject rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/EKT-voc-classifier/900007644'></dc:subject><dc:subject xml:lang='en'>just cause</dc:subject><dc:subject xml:lang='en'>just war theory</dc:subject><dc:subject xml:lang='en'>war</dc:subject><dc:subject xml:lang='en'>ethics of war</dc:subject><dc:subject xml:lang='en'>zero-sum game</dc:subject><dc:subject xml:lang='en'>justifiableness of war</dc:subject><dc:title xml:lang='en'>A ‘Just Cause’ or ‘Just A Cause’: Perils of the Zero-sum Model of Moral Responsibility for War</dc:title><dc:type rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/openarchives-item-types/Journal-part'></dc:type><dc:type>info:eu-repo/semantics/article</dc:type><dc:type>info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion</dc:type><dc:type rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/openarchives-item-types/Scientific-article'></dc:type><dcterms:created>2023-12-31</dcterms:created></edm:ProvidedCHO><skos:Concept rdf:about='http://semantics.gr/authorities/openarchives-item-types/Journal-part'><skos:prefLabel xml:lang='el'>Δημοσίευση σε περιοδικό</skos:prefLabel><skos:prefLabel xml:lang='en'>Publication in journal</skos:prefLabel><skos:broader rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/openarchives-item-types/Issue-segment'></skos:broader></skos:Concept><skos:Concept rdf:about='http://semantics.gr/authorities/EKT-voc-classifier/900007644'><skos:prefLabel xml:lang='el'>Φιλοσοφία</skos:prefLabel><skos:prefLabel xml:lang='en'>Philosophy</skos:prefLabel><skos:broader rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/EKT-voc-classifier/462105886'></skos:broader><skos:relatedMatch rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/ekt-unesco/1258282824'></skos:relatedMatch><skos:relatedMatch rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/LC-gr/filosofia-psyxologia-thrhskeia'></skos:relatedMatch><skos:relatedMatch rdf:resource='http://vocabularies.unesco.org/thesaurus/mt3.15'></skos:relatedMatch><skos:exactMatch rdf:resource='http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85100849'></skos:exactMatch><skos:exactMatch rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/LC-gr/filosofia-genika'></skos:exactMatch><skos:exactMatch rdf:resource='http://vocabularies.unesco.org/thesaurus/concept286'></skos:exactMatch><skos:exactMatch rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/ekt-unesco/1312694585'></skos:exactMatch><skos:exactMatch rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/EKT-voc/900007644'></skos:exactMatch><skos:note xml:lang='en'>isi - Philosophy covers resources on every branch of philosophy including logic, metaphysics, epistemology, descriptive ethics, and metaphilosophy.</skos:note></skos:Concept><skos:Concept rdf:about='http://semantics.gr/authorities/openarchives-item-types/Scientific-article'><skos:prefLabel xml:lang='el'>Επιστημονικό άρθρο</skos:prefLabel><skos:prefLabel xml:lang='en'>Scientific article</skos:prefLabel><skos:broader rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/openarchives-item-types/arthro'></skos:broader></skos:Concept><ore:Aggregation rdf:about='https://www.openarchives.gr/aggregator-openarchives/edm/aggregation/provider/000069-34553%231'><edm:aggregatedCHO rdf:resource='https://www.openarchives.gr/aggregator-openarchives/edm/Conatus/000069-34553'></edm:aggregatedCHO><edm:dataProvider>Εργαστήριο Εφαρμοσμένης Φιλοσοφίας</edm:dataProvider><edm:isShownAt rdf:resource='https://ejournals.epublishing.ekt.gr/index.php/Conatus/article/view/34553'></edm:isShownAt><edm:provider>Greek Aggregator OpenArchives.gr | National Documentation Centre (EKT)</edm:provider><edm:rights rdf:resource='http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0'></edm:rights></ore:Aggregation></rdf:RDF>
