Η παραγωγή παρέχει τα μέσα για την κατανάλωση και η κατανάλωση ικανοποιεί τις ανάγκες των ατόμων.\nΣτην ανάλυση και μελέτη της παραγωγής και της καταναλώσεως η οικονομική επιστήμη έχει συγκεντρώσει το ενδιαφέρον της στα ακόλουθα τρία βασικά πεδία μελέτης: στην κατανομή των παραγωγικών συντελεστών στους διάφορους κλάδους της παραγωγής, στο βαθμό απασχολήσεώς τους και στις δυνάμεις που συντελούν στην ανάπτυξή τους μέσα στο χρόνο.",
