Η αναγκαιότητα εξάλειψης αυτών των διαφορών, μεταξύ των λογιστικών πρακτικών, οδήγησε στην αναγκαστική υιοθέτηση κοινών λογιστικών αρχών και πρακτικών αναφοράς, τα Διεθνή Λογιστικά Πρότυπα, τα οποία διασφαλίζουν υψηλής ποιότητας οικονομική πληροφόρηση, η οποία να είναι συγκρίσιμη, κατανοητή και ανεξάρτητη από τη χώρα προέλευσης της.   Στις μέρες μας, η ανάγκη για εφαρμογή των Διεθνών Λογιστικών Προτύπων καθίσταται απαραίτητη σε δημόσιο και ιδιωτικό τομέα τόσο σε εθνικό επίπεδο όσο και σε διεθνές. Αν και ισχύουν διαφορετικοί κανόνες σε διαφορετικές χώρες υπάρχει πια η δυνατότητα να εξετάζονται αμερόληπτα η οικονομική θέση και το ετήσιο οικονομικό αποτέλεσμα δημοσιευμένων οικονομικών καταστάσεων, σε περίπτωση που εφαρμόζονται ενιαία λογιστικά πρότυπα.   Σκοπός της παρούσας πτυχιακής εργασίας είναι να εξετάσει πως τα Διεθνή Λογιστικά Πρότυπα βοήθησαν στη βελτίωση της ποιότητας των λογιστικών καταστάσεων στην Ελλάδα και στην προσέλευση νέων επενδυτών. Στο πρώτο κεφάλαιο γίνεται μια εισαγωγή στη Λογιστική και στις Χρηματοοικονομικές καταστάσεις. Έπειτα, στο δεύτερο κεφάλαιο αναλύεται η λογιστική απάτη και στο τρίτο και τέταρτο κεφάλαιο αναλύονται τα Διεθνή και Ελληνικά Λογιστικά Πρότυπα αντίστοιχα. Τέλος, στο πέμπτο και τελευταίο κεφάλαιο μελετάται η επίδραση των Διεθνών Λογιστικών Προτύπων στις χρηματοοικονομικές καταστάσεις",
