Ο λόγος ; μπορεί να είναι βλαβερά με τις ζημιές που προκαλούν στις καλλιέργειες, μερικά όμως από αυτά είναι και ωφέλιμα, όπως η μέλισσα και ο μεταξοσκώληκας.\nΥπάρχουν και άλλα ωφέλιμα έντομα, έντομα που περιορίζουν τους πληθυσμούς των βλαβερών, σε σημείο που να μη χρειάζεται να χρησιμοποιήσουμε εντομοκτόνα για την καταπολέμησή τους, που τα τελευταία χρόνια έχουν επιβαρύνει σημαντικά το περιβάλλον με επιπτώσεις ακόμα και στον ίδιο τον άνθρωπο. \nΤα τελευταία 20 χρόνια, περίπου, έχουν γίνει αρκετές μελέτες πάνω στη χρησιμοποίηση των ωφέλιμων εντόμων για τη βιολογική καταπολέμηση. Τα πολλά πλεονεκτήματά της οδηγούν στην όλο και πιο συχνή εφαρμογή της.",
