Η σημασία του στο παγκόσμιο εμπόριο, στη διεθνή οικονομία και στη τεχνολογική πρόοδο ήταν πάντοτε πολύ μεγάλη.\nΣτην εργασία που θα ακολουθήσει γίνεται αναφορά της καλλιέργειας του φυτού και περιγράφονται οι εχθροί, οι ασθένειες, τα ζιζάνια που προσβάλουν τις φυτείες καθώς και οι μέθοδοι αντιμετώπισης και ζιζανιοκτόνα που χρησιμοποιούνται.",
