Ο κυριότερος λόγος είναι, ότι με την χρήση ενός κυκλώματος ηλεκτρονικών ισχύος μπορούμε να επιτύχουμε έλεγχο της ροής ισχύος. Δηλαδή, η τροφοδότηση ενός φορτίου να γίνεται με την κατάλληλη ισχύ.  Παρακάτω ακολουθεί μια εισαγωγή στα ηλεκτρονικά ισχύος, και ανάλυση των ημιαγωγικών στοιχείων (δίοδος, θυρίστορ). Επίσης για την καλύτερη κατανόηση της συμπεριφοράς των στοιχείων γίνεται η εκπόνηση κάποιων πειραμάτων. Τα πειράματα αυτά είναι μία προσομοίωση βασικών ανορθωτικών κυκλωμάτων που τα βασικά τους ημιαγωγικά στοιχεία είναι η δίοδος και το θυρίστορ.  Για την σχεδίαση, την καταγραφή των κυματομορφών και την μέτρηση βασικών μεγεθών χρησιμοποιήθηκε το πρόγραμμα προσομοίωσης κυκλωμάτων ηλεκτρονικών ισχύος PSIM. Επίσης, παρουσιάζεται μια γενική περιγραφή λειτουργίας και χρήσης του PSIM",
