    "description" : "Εδώ και αρκετά χρόνια (κυρίως μετά την πετρελαϊκή κρίση του 1973) οι επιστήμονες βρίσκονται σε μια διαρκή αναζήτηση νέων μεθόδων παραγωγής ενέργειας, που θα αποδεσμεύσουν την ανθρωπότητα από την εξάρτησή της από τους υδρογονάνθρακες. Για το σκοπό αυτό έχουν εργαστεί πάρα πολλές ερευνητικές ομάδες και δαπανώνται όλο και μεγαλύτερα ποσά κάθε χρόνο, για την ανάπτυξη νέων τεχνολογιών.\n\nΟ κυριότερος λόγος που ωθεί στην αναζήτηση αυτή είναι τα περιορισμένα αποθέματα αργού πετρελαίου στα κοιτάσματα που έχουν εντοπιστεί, τα οποία θα εξαντληθούν σε μερικές δεκαετίες, αν η κατανάλωση συνεχίσει να αυξάνεται με τους σημερινούς ρυθμούς. Βέβαια στο μέλλον θα ανακαλυφθούν και άλλα κοιτάσματα, αλλά αναμένεται ότι η εξόρυξη πετρελαίου από αυτά θα είναι πιο δύσκολή και πιο δαπανηρή, λόγω της μορφολογίας του εδάφους, κάτω από το οποίο βρίσκονται και του μεγάλου βάθους εξόρυξης. Επιπλέον η χρήση των παραγώγων του πετρελαίου είναι συνδεδεμένη με την έκλυση στην ατμόσφαιρα διάφορων ρυπογόνων ουσιών, που επιβαρύνουν το περιβάλλον. Σήμερα υπάρχει μια ποικιλία τύπων κυψελών καυσίμου, οι διαφέρουν ως \nπρος το καύσιμο και τον ηλεκτρολύτη που χρησιμοποιούν, καθώς επίσης και \nως  προς  τις  εφαρμογές  για  τις  οποίες  προορίζονται.  Έτσι  οι  κυψέλες \nκαυσίμου μπορούν να χρησιμοποιηθούν από εφαρμογές πολύ μικρής ισχύος, \nόπως  κινητά  τηλεφωνά(mW),  μέχρι  μονάδες  παραγωγής  ηλεκτρικής \nενέργειας για την κάλυψη των αναγκών μιας μεγάλης πόλης (ΜW). Επίσης \nγίνονται σχέδια για τη χρήση κυψελών καυσίμου σε κατοικίες για παραγωγή \nηλεκτρικής ενέργειας μικρής κλίμακας, ώστε να καλύπτονται οι ενεργειακές \nανάγκες της κάθε κατοικίας.",
