Πιο συγκεκριμένα, ο σωστός οδικός φωτισμός μπορεί να δημιουργήσει ένα περιβάλλον κατά τη διάρκεια της νύχτας για ανοιχτές οδούς και κατά τη διάρκεια της ημέρας για σήραγγες, όπου οι οδηγοί θα είναι σε θέση να εντοπίζουν έγκαιρα και με ακρίβεια τα όρια του δρόμου, καθώς και τα τυχόν εμπόδια και αντικείμενα που θα βρεθούν μπροστά τους στο οδόστρωμα, ώστε να έχουν τη δυνατότητα να αντιδρούν με ασφάλεια. Επιπλέον, η εγκατάσταση οδικού φωτισμού στοχεύει στην επίτευξη μιας ομαλής κυκλοφοριακής ροής, παρέχοντας βελτιωμένη απεικόνιση των γεωμετρικών και κυκλοφοριακών χαρακτηριστικών της οδού και δυνατότητες ασφαλέστερης προσπέρασης. Με αυτόν τον τρόπο επιτυγχάνεται η βέλτιστη χρήση των υποδομών κατά τη διάρκεια της νύχτας και κατά τη διάρκεια της ημέρας όσον αφορά στις σήραγγες και κάτω από ευρεία ποικιλία καιρικών συνθηκών",
