Όλη η ενέργεια που παράγεται στους σταθμούς παραγωγής, οι οποίοι είναι συνήθως μακριά από μεγάλα αστικά κέντρα, μεταφέρεται στα κέντρο φορτίου με την βοήθεια εναέριων γραμμών μεταφοράς. Ο λόγος που προτιμάται μια τέτοια μεταφορά είναι απλώς οικονομικός. Η διανομή της ενέργειας από τους τοπικούς υποσταθμός σε βιομηχανίες εμπορικές χρήσεις και σε σπίτια γίνεται και από υπόγεια καλώδια.",
