Αρχικά, γίνεται αναφορά στην έννοια της επιχειρηματικότητας, στα κίνητρα που ωθούν σε αυτήν, καθώς και στα είδη της. Δίνεται η σχέση της με έννοιες όπως η ανάπτυξη, η εκπαίδευση, ο επιχειρηματίας και ο ανταγωνισμός στις επιχειρήσεις. Αναφέρονται οι τρόποι ενίσχυσης της επιχειρηματικότητας καθώς και τα επίπεδα της επιχειρηματικής δραστηριότητας στην Ελλάδα.
Στη συνέχεια, παρουσιάζεται η έννοια της καινοτομίας, οι μορφές της, οι πηγές άντλησής της και τα στάδια της. Σημειώνεται η επίδρασή της στην επιχειρησιακή λειτουργία και στο management, καθώς και τρόποι για την εμπορευματοποίηση και την χρηματοδότηση της καινοτομίας.
