Προκειμένου να επιτευχθεί ο σκοπός της Τυποποίησης, ο ορθολογισμός δηλ. στα αγαθά και τις υπηρεσίες, έχουν καθοριστεί οι παρακάτω στόχοι:
1.Ολική οικονομία σε ανθρώπινη προσπάθεια, υλικά και ενέργεια, μέσω της απλοποίησης, του περιορισμού ποικιλίας, και της εναλλαξιμότητας,
2.Τρόπος έκφρασης και επικοινωνίας, 
3.Ασφάλεια, υγεία και προστασία της ανθρώπινης ζωής, 
4.Προστασία καταναλωτή και συνήθη ενδιαφέροντα των ανθρώπων,
