Το άρθρο επιχειρεί να θέσει ορισμένα βασικά ερωτήματα για τη μελέτη των 30 εικονογραφημένων χειρόγραφων χρησμολογίων του 16ου αιώνα, τα οποία περιέχουν τους χρησμούς του Λέοντος του σοφού (PG 107, 1129-1140). Αποδεικνύεται ότι ορισμένα, τουλάχιστον, από τα χρησμολόγια παρουσιάζουν νοηματικές και τεχνοτροπικές συμφωνίες με δυτικοευρωπαϊκά (κυρίως ιταλικά) αντίστοιχα χειρόγραφα, και επίσης με παραστάσεις εκ πρώτης όψεως άσχετες, που προέβαλλαν την ιδεολογία της Renovatio Mundi. Το είδος των συγκεκριμένων κοινών νοημάτων, καθώς και η μόνιμη, ισχυρή αντίφαση ανάμεσα στην παράδοση και τη συγχρονία, που όφειλαν να διαχειριστούν οι Έλληνες χρησμολόγοι, εξηγούν σε μεγάλο βαθμό τις εικονογραφικές επιλογές και το τεχνοτροπικό ιδίωμα της εικονογράφησης των χρησμών. The article attempts to raise certain fundamental questions about the study of thirty 16th-century illustrated manuscripts, which contain the Oracles of Leo the Wise (PG 107, 1129-1140). It is shown that some of these manuscripts are congruent both in meaning and in style with corresponding western (mainly Italian) manuscripts, and also with representations that at first glance seem unrelated, which promoted the ideology of Renovatio Mundi. The type of these specific shared meanings, as well as the lasting, strong contrast between tradition and the present, which the Greek oracle writers were required to deal with, explain the iconographical choices and the stylistic idiom of the representation of oracles to a great extent.
