Η αναδίφηση ιστορικών πηγών της περιόδου της Εικονομαχίας επιτρέπει τον προσδιορισμό κατά προσέγγιση του χώρου και του κτηρίου, όπου συγκλήθηκε η Πρώτη Οικουμενική Σύνοδος στη Νίκαια. Σύμφωνα με αυτές επρόκειτο για αυτοκρατορικό ενδιαίτημα με περίκεντρη μορφή και oculus στο κέντρο του που πρέπει να βρισκόταν σε κοντινή απόσταση από την πύλη της Κωνσταντινούπολης. Το κτήριο πιθανώς ήταν προσβάσιμο από την κύρια οδική αρτηρία της πόλης με κατεύθυνση Β-Ν. Αργότερα, σύμφωνα με τις μαρτυρίες είχε μετατραπεί σε εκκλησία και κοσμήθηκε με την ψηφιδωτή παράσταση των Αγίων Πατέρων που συμμετείχαν στην Πρώτη Οικουμενική Σύνοδο.

The consultation of the historical sources of the period of Iconoclasm has approximately allowed the designation of the place and building in which the First Ecumenical Council was held at Nicaea. According to the latter, the venue, which was part of the imperial palace of the town with a rotunda shape and an oculus at its centre must have been near the gate of Istanbul. Access to the building was allowed from the main N-S artery of the town. The building, according to later historical testimonies, was turned into a church and was decorated with the depiction, in mosaic, of the Holy Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council.
