An icon by Nicolaos Tzafouris in the Antivouniotissa museum, Corfu

Στο Μουσείο της Αντιβουνιώτισσας στην Κέρκυρα βρίσκεται μια ενυπόγραφη εικόνα του Νικολάου Τζαφούρη που προέρχεται από τον ναό της Υπαπαντής στα Γουβιά της Κέρκυρας. Η εικόνα αναπαράγει στην τυπική του μορφή το τρίμορφο της Δέησης, όπου ο Χριστός είναι ένθρονος και τον πλαισιώνουν στα δεξιά του η Παναγία και στα αριστερά του ο Πρόδρομος. Η εικονογραφία της τη συνδέει με τρία έργα του ζωγράφου Άγγελου, την εικόνα με το Δωδεκάορτο του Ρίτζου, και δύο ακόμα ομόλογα έργα. Σε επίπεδο τεχνοτροπικό ο ζωγράφος ακολουθεί τα διδάγματα του Αγγέλου και του Ανδρέα Ρίτζου. Με αυτή την μοναδική εικόνα πιστοποιείται η ικανότητα του Τζαφούρη να ζωγραφίζει και a la maniera greca, όπως είχε καταγραφεί στις αρχειακές πηγές.

The Antivοuniotissa Museum of Corfu houses a signed work by Nikolaos Tzafouris which had been previously treasured in the church of Hypapante at Gouvia of Corfu. The icon reproduces the typical format of a Deesis where Christ is seated on a throne and is flanked on his right by the Virgin and on his left by Saint John the Baptist. The icon on iconographic terms can be linked to three Deesis icons made by the painter Angelos, the icon of the Dodekaorton by Andreas Ritzos and two more works with the same subject. In terms of style, it can be suggested that the painter follows both the art of Angelos and Andreas Ritzos. With this unique work, it can now be verified what the archival sources had documented about Tzafouris, that he was also able to work a la maniera greca.
