Με αφορμή το ενδιαφέρον μας για τα γραφιστικά στοιχεία που εντοπίζονται στην ελληνική παραδοσιακή χειροτεχνία, αναρωτηθήκαμε τρόπους που θα μπορούσαν να ενταχθούν και να χρησιμοποιηθούν ως εργαλεία οπτικής επικοινωνίας και διαμόρφωσης ταυτότητας ενός πολιτιστικού χώρου ή ακόμα και ενός ευρύτερου πολιτιστικού δικτύου. Η βιοτεχνία "Οικονομόπουλος" επιλέχθηκε για την ίδρυση αυτού του πολιτιστικού χώρου. Η επιλογή επηρεάστηκε από την άμεση σύνδεση της βιοτεχνίας με τη χρήση ελληνικών παραδοσιακών γραφικών στοιχείων στον σχεδιασμό μαντηλιών. Η πρώην βιοτεχνία μαντηλιών μετατρέπεται σε μουσείο μικρής κλίμακας μέσω της αναδιαμόρφωσης του εσωτερικού της καθώς και της ένταξης νέων λειτουργιών δημιουργώντας μια βιωματική εμπειρία που αφορά τόσο την ανάδειξη των λαϊκών παραδοσιακών στοιχείων της χώρας μας, όσο και των τεχνικών που χρησιμοποιούνταν για την παραγωγή των μαντηλιών. Μέσα από την ανάλυση και την επεξεργασία των μοτίβων, που εντοπίστηκαν σε ελληνικές παραδοσιακές χειροτεχνίες, δημιουργήθηκαν νέα μοτίβα τα οποία ενσωματώθηκαν στα αρχιτεκτονικά στοιχεία του μουσείου και συνέβαλαν στη διαμόρφωση και ανάδειξη της ταυτότητάς του. On the occasion of our interest in the graphic elements found in Greek traditional handicrafts, we wondered ways that they could be included and used as tools of visual communication and shaping the identity of a cultural space or even a wider cultural network. The BEM building in Metaxourgeio was chosen for the establishment of this cultural space. The choice was influenced by the direct connection of the industry to the use of traditional Greek graphic elements in the design of handkerchiefs. The former handkerchief workshop is transformed into a small-scale museum through the remodeling of its interior as well as the inclusion of new functions, creating an experiential experience that both highlights the popular traditional elements of our country, as well as the techniques used to produce the handkerchiefs. Through the analysis and processing of the motifs found in traditional Greek crafts, new motifs were created which were integrated into the architectural elements of the museum and contributed to shaping and highlighting its identity.
