We present a survey of our comprehensive studies for determining the energy dependence of the optical potential at sub- and near- barrier energies, for weakly bound nuclei. A new algorithm for describing the optical potential for 7Be with mass and energy dependence on various targets is deduced and compared with existing optical potentials. The necessity of using global studies for determining the optical potential at sub- and near-barrier energies is outlined. (EN)
