Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of comorbidities on quality of life and 5 year survival of patients with heart failure. Methods: One hundred and ten patients have completed questionnaires such as Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire (KCCQ), Duke Activity Status Index (DASI) and Zung score. Anaemia, diabetes mellitus, renal dysfunction and depression were recorded. Scores of functional capacity and quality of life and survival were compared among patients with no comorbidities, with one, two and 3 or more comorbidities. Results: The absence of comorbidities was associated with better functional scores, quality of life, depression score and exercise capacity, while the presence of one (1C), two (2C) and ≥three comorbidities (3C) were associated with a continuous decline in all parameters (table). Five year survival plots for patients without comorbidities, with one, two and 3 or more comorbid conditions are shown in figure. Conclusion: The presence of comorbidities in heart failure patients influence functional status, quality of life and patients' long term survival. (EN)
