Abstract: Content analysis is one of the most important research techniques in social sciences, and in communication. It is a useful tool in the arsenal of every social researcher in his endeavor to investigate the social phenomena. The term content analysis is about 70 years old and, as every other research technique in social sciences, it uses specific procedures to elaborate and the define data and to extract scientific findings. However, because of its limitations, content analysis has often been an area of conflicts and frictions among scientists, regarding the bounds of its implementations and its usefulness. This paper aims to examine the uses, the advantages and the disadvantages of content analysis and to state an opinion concerning the implementation bounds as well as the usefulness of the specific method.
