The financial crisis has caused a breaking fall record and has raised critical issues to many Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs). Examining how this fall could be prevented and how these issues can be resolved constitutes the primary aim of the current dissertation. To this end, the present study aims at presenting a critical analysis of the existing literature and of diverse research techniques regarding the way in which Small and Medium sized enterprises are managed in Greece in an era of economic recession. Emphasis will be placed on the analysis of applications of administration, as well as of the particular characteristics a successful SME manager should dispose. The survey is based on the insight of certain respondents gathered through a questionnaire with related adapted questions from the literature review conducted , in order to make an analysis and draw conclusions regarding SMEs’ innovation policy and. Such conclusions will serve as a guide in order to seek best practices to improve the base of innovation activities that will assist SMEs overcome the crisis, become stronger and find ways to increase their performance and growth perspectives.
