Port Facility Security Systems Management:The impact of International Ship and Port Facility Security Code on Port Operations and Activities.

Theodosiadis, Charalampos

The present paper examines how the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code and the various international security initiatives currently implemented at Hellenic seaports, with the case study of Thessaloniki Port Authority SA, affect and influence port operations and activities. The analysis explores various port elements such as the interaction of the port’s stakeholders with security, the economic impact of the security implementation, human personnel issues, port performance and strategic planning. The analysis was based on a practical approach through interviews and observation, and on a theoretical approach through the study of government official documents and on port related literature, since it touches on various research fields like economics, operations, technology, management, strategy and policy.
