Στο κεφάλαιο αυτό παρουσιάζεται η σύντομη ιστορία των αρχιτεκτονικών περιοδικών στις ΗΠΑ κατά τον 20ό αιώνα σε συνάρτηση με την εξέλιξη του αρχιτεκτονικού επαγγέλματος και την εισαγωγή του κινήματος του μοντερνισμού ως σχεδιαστικής σκέψης. Σε αυτό το πλαίσιο η ιστορία του μοντερνισμού υπήρξε ταλαντευόμενη ανάμεσα στην ανάγκη οικονομικών και λειτουργικών σχεδιαστικών λύσεων και στις πλουραλιστικές τάσεις της ελεύθερης αγοράς της μεταπολεμικής κοινωνίας. This chapter presents the short history of US architectural periodicals throughout the 20th century in juxtaposition with the historical development of the architectural profession and the conflicting introduction of the modernist movement in the American context. In this context, the story of modernism was strained between a need for functional and economic design solutions, and the pluralistic forms fitting to the desires of the postwar affluent society.
