Η Αστική Ηλεκτρονική Μουσική, σημαντικά διαφοροποιημένη τόσο ως προς τα αισθητικά κριτήρια όσο και ως προς τους περιορισμούς, τους οποίους επέβαλλαν τα ερευνητικά κέντρα και ιδρύματα της νέας μεταπολεμικής μουσικής, απευθύνεται κατά κύριο λόγο στον δημόσιο χώρο και στον μέσο ακροατή. Νέες υβριδικές μορφές αναδύονται, οι οποίες δανείζονται και επαναδιατυπώνουν με ευρηματικό τρόπο στοιχεία από το ακαδημαϊκό παρελθόν και οι οποίες με τη χρήση των νέων μέσων και τεχνολογιών διαμορφώνουν τα δικά τους αισθητικά πρότυπα, τα οποία σε μεγάλο βαθμό έχουν στη βάση τη χορευτική μουσική: house, techno, electric beat, electronica, ambient, noise, glitch.

Urban Electronic Music, significantly differentiated from the aesthetic criteria and the constraints imposed by the research centres and institutions of the new post-war music, was primarily addressed to the public sphere and the average listener. New hybrid forms emerged, which borrow and reinterpret in an inventive way elements from the academic past and which, with the use of new media and technologies, form their aesthetic standards, largely based on dance music: house, techno, electric beat, electronica, ambient, noise, glitch.
