Continuous exposure of plants to salinity conditions can lead to permanent effects on production. An experiment with emphasis on the effect of different salinity concentrations held in hydroponic cultivation of lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and sage (Salvia officinalis).
Plants were grown in an open hydroponic system, in pots with perlite. The experiment was mainly to determine the growth parameters such as plant height, number of leaves, fresh and dry weight of above ground and underground, root length, thickness of the central stem, number of shoots. The concentration of nutrients in plants was also determined, along with the concentration of total phenolics and the content of chlorophylls, after the application of 25mM, 50mM, 75mM and 100mM NaCl in the hydroponic solution.
Different concentrations of NaCl significantly affected plant growth of lavender and sage plants. It was observed that the plants after the application of high salinity (75mM and 100mM NaCl), remained stunted, with a significant reduction of, among others, the number of leaves, the fresh root weight (66% in lavender and 79% in sage) and dry root weight (70% in lavender and 79% in sage). The concentration of sodium (Na) increased linearly with the increase of NaCl concentration (values 20 times larger in lavender and 18 times the sage compared to the control plants). By applying 100mM NaCl, the concentration of potassium (K) decreased in both lavender and sage plants. Phosphorus (P) concentration did not show specific changes, while the nitrogen concentration (N) decreased only in sage plants. Total phenols did not show any significant difference in both species whereas concentrations of chlorophylls a, b and total chlorophylls decreased significantly with increased salinity.</dc:description><dc:description>Όπως είναι γνωστό οι υψηλές συγκεντρώσεις αλατότητας επηρεάζουν σημαντικά τη γεωργία και ιδιαίτερα την ανάπτυξη και επιβίωση των καλλιεργειών.
Η συγκέντρωση των φαινολών δεν παρουσίασε καμία σημαντική διαφορά και στα δύο είδη, ενώ οι συγκεντρώσεις χλωροφυλλών α, β και ολικών χλωροφυλλών μειώθηκαν σημαντικά, με την αύξηση της αλατότητας.</dc:description><dc:description>Completed</dc:description><dc:format>pdf</dc:format><dc:identifier>https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.14279/8223</dc:identifier><dc:language>gre</dc:language><dc:publisher>Τμήμα Γεωπονικών Επιστημών, Βιοτεχνολογίας και Επιστήμης Τροφίμων, Σχολή Γεωτεχνικών Επιστημών και Διαχείρισης Περιβάλλοντος, Τεχνολογικό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου</dc:publisher><dc:rights>open</dc:rights><dc:rights>Απαγορεύεται η δημοσίευση ή αναπαραγωγή, ηλεκτρονική ή άλλη χωρίς τη γραπτή συγκατάθεση του δημιουργού και κάτοχου των πνευματικών δικαιωμάτων.</dc:rights><dc:subject rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/EKT-voc-classifier/2101509506'></dc:subject><dc:subject>Υδροπονικό σύστημα</dc:subject><dc:subject>Sage</dc:subject><dc:subject>Perlite</dc:subject><dc:subject>Salinity</dc:subject><dc:subject>Lavender</dc:subject><dc:subject>Υδροπονική καλλιέργεια λεβάντας</dc:subject><dc:subject>Hydroponics</dc:subject><dc:subject>Πείραμα</dc:subject><dc:subject rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/EKT-voc-classifier/237372171'></dc:subject><dc:subject>Αλατότητα</dc:subject><dc:subject>Χλωροφύλλη</dc:subject><dc:subject>Ανάπτυξη φυτών</dc:subject><dc:subject>Λεβάντα</dc:subject><dc:subject>Φασκομηλιά</dc:subject><dc:subject rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/EKT-voc-classifier/615489274'></dc:subject><dc:title>Επίδραση αλατότητας σε υδροπονική καλλιέργεια λεβάντας και φασκομηλιάς</dc:title><dc:type rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/openarchives-item-types/ptyxiakh-ergasia'></dc:type><dc:type>bachelorThesis</dc:type><dcterms:created>2015</dcterms:created></edm:ProvidedCHO><skos:Concept rdf:about='http://semantics.gr/authorities/EKT-voc-classifier/2101509506'><skos:prefLabel xml:lang='el'>Γεωπονία, γενικά</skos:prefLabel><skos:prefLabel xml:lang='en'>Agriculture, general</skos:prefLabel><skos:broader rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/EKT-voc-classifier/2075318343'></skos:broader><skos:exactMatch rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/EKT-voc/2101509506'></skos:exactMatch><skos:closeMatch rdf:resource='http://vocabularies.unesco.org/thesaurus/concept598'></skos:closeMatch><skos:closeMatch rdf:resource='http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85002415'></skos:closeMatch><skos:note xml:lang='en'>isi - Agriculture, Multidisciplinary covers resources having a general or interdisciplinary approach to the agricultural sciences.
