Subtitles are a popular form of audiovisual translation and their usage is growing worldwide. Conveying conversational dialogues from one language via subtitles to another may not come without obstacles as subtitles are a reduced, written, form of text, where many features of conversational, spoken language may be lost. Skins, a British teenage series, containing fast-paced dialogues and slang, as well as an abundance of expletives, will be used as an illustration of this topic. The subtitling of only one expletive will be compared across all seven seasons of this television series, by analysing the opening episode of each season, against different circumstances in which particular seasons were subtitled. The study of the corpus of Croatian subtitles of this TV series, based on the analysis of the opening episode of each season of this TV series has been conducted. The article aims to show that the way subtitles are depends on how they were created, under what set of circumstances.</dc:description><dc:format>application/pdf</dc:format><dc:identifier>https://ejournals.epublishing.ekt.gr/index.php/latic/article/view/20276</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:publisher xml:lang='en'>Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting, Ionian University</dc:publisher><dc:relation rdf:resource='https://ejournals.epublishing.ekt.gr/index.php/latic/article/view/20276/17720'></dc:relation><dc:rights xml:lang='en'>https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0</dc:rights><dc:rights xml:lang='en'>Copyright (c) 2019 KRISTIJAN NIKOLIC</dc:rights><dc:source>2241-7214</dc:source><dc:source>International Journal of Language, Translation and Intercultural Communication</dc:source><dc:source>2241-4304</dc:source><dc:source xml:lang='el'>International Journal of Language, Translation and Intercultural Communication; Τόμ. 8 (2019): AVT as a Bridge for Communication: From Language Learning to Accessibility; 48-64</dc:source><dc:source xml:lang='en'>International Journal of Language, Translation and Intercultural Communication; Vol. 8 (2019): AVT as a Bridge for Communication: From Language Learning to Accessibility; 48-64</dc:source><dc:subject rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/EKT-voc-classifier/1686691655'></dc:subject><dc:subject xml:lang='en'>subtitler’s experience</dc:subject><dc:subject xml:lang='en'>Skins</dc:subject><dc:subject xml:lang='en'>culture</dc:subject><dc:subject xml:lang='en'>interlingual subtitles</dc:subject><dc:subject xml:lang='en'>subtitling</dc:subject><dc:subject xml:lang='en'>subtitling circumstances</dc:subject><dc:title xml:lang='en'>The Language of Interlingual Subtitles: Studying the f Word in Skins</dc:title><dc:type rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/openarchives-item-types/Journal-part'></dc:type><dc:type>info:eu-repo/semantics/article</dc:type><dc:type>info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion</dc:type><dc:type rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/openarchives-item-types/Scientific-article'></dc:type><dcterms:created>2019-04-15</dcterms:created></edm:ProvidedCHO><skos:Concept rdf:about='http://semantics.gr/authorities/openarchives-item-types/Journal-part'><skos:prefLabel xml:lang='el'>Δημοσίευση σε περιοδικό</skos:prefLabel><skos:prefLabel xml:lang='en'>Publication in journal</skos:prefLabel><skos:broader rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/openarchives-item-types/Issue-segment'></skos:broader></skos:Concept><skos:Concept rdf:about='http://semantics.gr/authorities/EKT-voc-classifier/1686691655'><skos:prefLabel xml:lang='el'>Γλώσσα και Γλωσσολογία</skos:prefLabel><skos:prefLabel xml:lang='en'>Language and Linguistics</skos:prefLabel><skos:broader rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/EKT-voc-classifier/473724010'></skos:broader><skos:exactMatch rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/EKT-voc/1686691655'></skos:exactMatch><skos:exactMatch rdf:resource='http://vocabularies.unesco.org/thesaurus/mt3.30'></skos:exactMatch><skos:exactMatch rdf:resource='http://semantics.gr/authorities/ekt-unesco/257176627'></skos:exactMatch><skos:closeMatch rdf:resource='http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85077222'></skos:closeMatch><skos:closeMatch rdf:resource='http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85074518'></skos:closeMatch><skos:note xml:lang='en'>isi - Language &amp; Linguistics covers resources relating to theoretical, literary and historical linguistics as well as stylistics and philology.</skos:note><skos:note xml:lang='en'>isi - Linguistics covers resources relating to all theoretical and applied aspects of linguistics, including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics.
